Introducing the new Office of Clinical Research

Read the UF Administrative Memo announcing the new Office of Clinical Research:

As part of our shared commitment to supporting the university’s clinical research mission, we are pleased to announce that the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute will launch two initiatives this month to streamline processes, reduce redundancy and create a more facilitative environment:

• Implementation of OnCore as an enterprise-level clinical research management system. In use at the UF Health Cancer Center since 2009, OnCore manages multiple aspects of clinical research, including protocols, participants, billing, data and specimens. The first phase of implementation will begin in 2017, with campus-wide implementation anticipated in 2018.

• Reorganization of clinical research resources and administration under a new Office of Clinical Research. The office will redesign workflows to leverage the full functionality of OnCore, minimize bottlenecks and provide more facilitative support for research teams. Housed under the UF CTSI with joint oversight by the Cancer Center, the office merges staff and resources from Research Administration and Compliance, CTSI, UF Health, Cancer Center and Office of Research units.

Launching this month, the new office, directed by Brian Sevier, PhD, will lead the OnCore implementation in collaboration with UF Health IT, UFIT and technical consultants. A new Office of Clinical Research website has been launched with initial project information, but research teams should continue to follow current processes for protocols until workflow changes are announced.

The Office of Clinical Research will provide updates and solicit input through the new site, in addition to advisory groups, town-hall forums and other communications, starting with an informal brown-bag Information Session scheduled for March 13, 2017, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 104 of the Shepard Broad Building, 1300 Center Drive.

Since 2012, UF’s clinical trials and related expenditures have more than doubled – a testament to the hard work of our staff and faculty, and a major driver in our quest to become a top-ranked university. Through these initiatives, we aim to fuel the continued growth and impact of UF clinical research.
